Another paper of fish

This paper was published in the BJRST journal and you can read the full paper in this link: DOI: 10.33736/bjrst.4076.2021. Below is the abstract and the title for this paper.

Lead and cadmium in fish, prawn, water and sediment of the Santubong Estuary

This is the project with my Master student, Adriana Christopher Lee (graduated). You can read the full paper from this DOI link: https://doi.org/10.54319/jjbs/140218. Why we chose this area as the study site? Santubong Estuary is located at the Bako-Buntal Bay, bordered by Gunung Santubong and Bako National Park, Malysia. It is an estuary with mangrove ecosystem. Mangroves are the most productive ecosystems due to their role as a nursery and breeding grounds for many fish species including the juvenile. Surrounding areas of Santubong Estuary have been rapidly growing as an industrial area (i.e. Demak Laut Industrial Park) and the industrial activities in this area may have produced heavy metal wastes.

Manuscript on heavy metals in giant freshwater prawn in Sarawak River

Another paper of the heavy metals in Macrobrachium rosenbergii in Sarawak River. This species is abundant in Sarawak River and can be wild-captured by fishermen along the river. However, rapid urbanization may increase the contamination of heavy metals in the water and sediment, which may enter into the prawns' body. No similar study was done too at this area. Therefore this study was conducted here. You can read the full paper from this DOI link: DOI: 10.46488/NEPT.2021.v20i02.006. The abstract of this paper is as shown below:

Fish Mass in the lake and we published a paper from it

The massive fish kill event occurred on 11 January 2018 (for several days). I was given a responsible to lead the investigation on this mass mortality of fish. Approximately ∼8,500 fishes from the Oreochromis placidus species were dead in this event. The reason was unknown in the begining. After a thorough investigation, several factors were highlighted to cause the fish kill. One of them was due to the bloom of a freshwater green alga Botryococcus braunii (Botryococcaceae, Trebouxiophyceae). This paper was accepted on December 2020 and published on February 2021 and you can get a full paper from this DOI link: https://doi.org/10.3800/pbr.16.59.

Journal Manuscript: Heavy Metals in Giant Freshwater Prawn from Kerang River, Sarawak

I applied a research grant (RAGS) in 2014 to do a research on heavy metals in Macrobrachium rosenbergii or locally know as giant freshwater prawn (udang galah) in several rivers around Kuching-Samarahan Regions. My Master student (graduated), Masania Mohd Basri, did this research and we managed to publish several manuscript papers from this study. This first manuscript was this one. You can get the full paper from this link: https://doi.org/10.1007/s00128-018-2270-3.

South China Sea Expedition for the trace metal study

My master students and I were lucky enough to get an opportunity to work onboard of the MV SEAFDEC2 ship from August to October 2015, between 2 – 6°N and 100 –113°E. We conducted several research activity and one of them were this paper, working on the physicochemical parameters of the surface water. Samples were collected at locations as shown in Figure 1. This study was funded by my SGS grant received in 2014. This paper was the work of my master student (graduated), Melissa Denis Chong.

InTEX17: My 1st experience joining InTEX and won Bronze Medal!

I took a challenge to join InTEX17 expo with this project. I did not put any hope on winning any medals on that day, just would like to gain some experience and get to know other researchers works. Alhamdulillah, my team was chosen to win a Bronze Medal.
